Just in time to start a stranded colorwork holiday stocking project! Bethany has knit many Doodle Stockings and will help you get off on the right foot with proper planning of your Doodle Holiday Stocking. "Doodles" are designed by Jamie Lomax of Pacific Knit Co. are modern and whimsical colorwork motif patterns that enable knitters to design and knit exactly what they want!
During this class, students will learn how to choose and modify your base pattern with endless customization options, how to re-create your master chart using Doodle motifs, and how to build cohesive yarn color palettes that work for colorwork, . Afterwards, you’ll have the confidence to create your own unique colorwork stockings collection!
This class will follow the special Book Signing event at Stranded by the Sea on Satruday, October 24th from 10am to 2pm for "The Doodle Sock Knitting Directory" with Jamie Lomax. A perfect time to seize your inspiration and start your project. Please note that this class is not taught by Jamie Lomax and she is not scheduled to stay for the class following the book signing event.
What you will learn in this class:
How to choose, arrange, and build your Doodle Colorwork Charts
Design considerations specific to Holiday Stockings
Tips & Tricks for making a great custom stocking
How to create a cohesive and contrasting color palette for colorwork knitting
Materials included:
Pattern for Holiday 1 Doodle (Stocking) by Jamie Lomax
with extra print out of the holiday charts to cut and paste and design
Optional Materials (not required):
Doodle Charts/Cards of a specific theme you want to use
Light Worsted / DK weight yarn in 2-6 colors for your design
US 5 (3.75mm) needles for knitting in the round (DPNs, magic loop, or 9” circulars)
Some experience with basic colorwork knitting will be helpful, but is not required.
For in-depth class on the stranded colorwork technique, we recommend the Fundamentals of Fair Isle Class.
