Stranded by the Sea is a Local Yarn Store located in the Edmonds Waterfront district offering natural yarn and supplies for knitting, crochet, spinning, felting, weaving, and other fiber arts, emphasizing sustainable and artisan quality materials, social knitting and spinning, and education. See updates on our blog.
Our classes, workshops, and social activities include knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, felting, and dyeing from beginner to more advanced skills, from kids to adults. We have weekly fiber social groups, group classes, knit-along projects, and special skills classes, including fair isle techniques, double knitting, lace work, socks, and more. Check our calendar or register online.
Hand-crafting and fiber arts are thoughtful traditions and the products used should reflect the time and skill that each artist invests in the project. We believe in preserving and protecting the waterways and marine life from synthetic fibers and their manufacture and are mindful of these concerns in the products we offer and produce, from the shepherding practices and source of the wool to the packaging for the consumer.
We have our own line of custom made stitch markers, notions, sock blockers, and mitten blockers, as well as own line of hand-dyed yarns and spinning fibers, including Angora fiber from our own “fluffle” of English Angora rabbits.
Step into a world of color with our in-house yarns and fiber, Stranded Studio, where every skein and braid of fiber is hand-dyed with meticulous precision. Our harmonious palette includes repeatable semi-solids, hand-painted and space-dyed creations, and smoothly transitioning gradients and self-striping — each crafted to spark inspiration and elevate your making. We proudly offer a thoughtfully curated selection of bases from fingering to super-bulky and a wide range of luxurious blends, including 100% cashmere, elegant wool–silk and BFL–silk blends, shimmering sequins, non-superwash wools, classic 3-ply sock yarn, and exceptionally soft merinos known for their depth and beautiful stitch definition. Local dyer, Owl Spun, offers dynamic hand-dyed plant-based yarns and fibers such as organic cotton and tencel, along with her award-winning handspun yarns. Together, we bring a richly textured, color-forward experience of local Puget Sound indie-dyers that you won’t want to miss. Come explore, squish, and be inspired!
